Ready-made picture frames
The cheapest way of framing a print is for you to buy a ready-made frame. An oddity of the market is that small frames tend to be measured in inches, whereas larger ones are normally measured in cm. If required, remember to allow for some sort of border. Although pictures may be printed to the very edge (borderless), many people prefer that framed pictures do have some sort of border. This cures the problem that a photo may well have a different shape (aspect ratio) to any ready-made frame. The border in effect takes up the difference in shape, with the added benefit of giving a pleasing effect. Frequently, photos are not particularly well composed, & benefit from 'cropping'. This retains just the most interesting part, with any extraneous material to the sides being discarded. A non-standard shape usually results, which can only be redressed with a border. For a professional finish, most people prefer a 'bevel-cut mount-board' - using white or coloured card as the border. Whilst readily available in the smaller standard sizes, you may need to resort to custom cut - which we can provide at extra cost. (discussed under Services) Alternatively the photo can be printed in a reduced size on the paper, so that the surrounding paper acts as the border. If required, the "surround" can be printed in a colur of your choice, or given other effects, such as to draw a line (or lines) around the photo. Finally, the photo can be printed to exactly match the frame size. A problem with this approach is that it places contraints on the cropping of the photo.
